The origins of Leica start in 1865 following the partnership between founder Ernest Leitz and Carl Kellners Optical Institute. Leitz eventually takes over Optical Institute following Kellners and Friedrich Belthle’s deaths, at which point he renamed the company to Ernest Leitz–Wetzlar.
